About Hugh McAdam, USRowing Referee Program Associate

Mr. McAdam began rowing in 2004 as a walk-on to the Washington College Rowing Team. He was a four-year varsity athlete and team captain. From there, he rowed for the Undine Barge Club, Craftsbury Green Racing Project, Potomac, and Riverside Boat Clubs. He raced at the 2021 Royal Henley Regatta and the lightweight single at World Cups in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017. He competed at the World Championships in 2015 in the lightweight quad and in 2018 in the lightweight double. He qualified to compete in the 2021 World Championships in the lightweight double. However, that event was canceled. He has also won 7 national Championships and is a five-time Head of the Charles winner in the lightweight single.

During his time as an athlete, McAdam also found time to coach. He spent three years as the men’s head coach at Skidmore College, was a junior and masters coach in Craftsbury, and was a volunteer assistant coach at Dartmouth College with the lightweight program. After his time at Dartmouth, he joined NCSA as the Rowing Recruiting Coach and helped more than 200 athletes commit to college rowing programs across the country. McAdam’s moved away from elite-level rowing and now works at US Rowing.
